One more Eisteddfod entry to locate

I finished the last client quilt for the Eisteddfod today. All of the entries have to be handed in on 2 March. I have never helped at the handover and this year there are more entries than ever in the Needlework section. I imagine it must be frantic on the day with one school having 200 entries as well as adult groups having up to 60 entries in over 40 classes.

Anne' quilt showcases nine candle-wicking blocks. I have kept it simple and stitched in the ditch on the sashing and done a big stipple around the patterns to make them pop.




All of my Eisteddfod entries have been located, labelled and bagged. I found two pairs of threads on my hopscotch quilt to sew in. I have not yet found my Union Jack pillow. I have a vague recollection of putting it somewhere safe! I have a total of fourteen entries - one for Caesarea Quilters and thirteen for Chez Soi. So thirteen are ready to go and one to find. A job for another day if it's not under my bed.




Tomorrow I'm looking forward to meeting Sarah from Quilt Candy and prepping for our guild UFO day on Sunday. I wonder if it's a Friday night sew in tomorrow or did I miss it last week?

Michelle's first quilt

Simply lovely. Michelle has been very patient as I've been delayed in finishing this due to two consecutive weeks of half term, a cold that lasted for ten days and a few machine problems.

I finished quilting the second of these two identical exquisite quilts on Sunday. They were trimmed yesterday and are being collected later this morning. I can't imagine doing any quilt twice, but Val has done a lovely job.





Pattern and fabric ( Le Jardin) from Antique Angel. I used the new Alex pantograph and sands of time thread.




I love this block as it looks like the wind is drying the dresses on the line.




I hope Val likes what I've done as she gave me free rein. Initially we had chosen a peachy rust thread but I the variegated beige is more subtle.

Hometown

This is Jane's quilt for a friend made with Hometown by Sweetwater for Moda. I love this fabric which I'm using for my Swoon quilt and I love this quilt.Jane's friend wanted a simple pattern so we kept the quilting simple in a very pale blue which is almost white.

You can see that it was very windy when I took this photo on Monday.

Another of Liz's quilts from recycled shirts. I believe this was a pattern from one of the UK patchwork magazines.The weather here is very wet today so I took some photos in my daughter's city inspired bedroom. I think it would look very nice in there permanently.

Summer Breeze

This quilt was made by Jenny for her friend Babs using a Moda summer breeze jelly roll and a pattern written by the Lintotts, jelly roll quilt experts extraordinaire. The colours are so fresh. we decided to try a new pantograph - Rebekah's rose which worked very nicely.

Jenny now has a month to add the binding and sew the binding on. The backing was a decorator weight fabric and I'm not convinced it was cotton, so it will be a challenge to hand stitch that binding.

I have another quilt to share with you once Lizzie brings my camera back from school. I'm having a few problems with my Prostitcher so Sunday I'll have to bite the bullet again and clean everything and check connections before starting the next row on Liz's stunning union jack quilt made from shirts.

Farmers Wife May 2012

There's no point pretending that I'm keeping up with two blocks a week, because I'm not. With only 21 blocks to complete, you'd think my progress would have picked up its pace, but it's dwindled to almost nothing. however here is my latest block.

I have ordered some fabric for the sashing and half triangles which I hope will look nice together with the blocks once the fabric arrives. Still waiting impatiently for a bolt of grey Moda dotty backing. I think they've underestimated the popularity and have run out of stock as it was released in February but still hasn't arrived in Jersey.

Tea service

I love this blue and white version of the Building Blocks pattern that Liz has made. The touch of turquoise makes it sparkle. It reminds me of Delft pottery.




Liz wanted roses quilted on this pattern. I have one rose pantograph but came across this free pantograph which stitched out beautifully. The original was only 3.9" deep so I doubled the size so it was less dense. You can get this pantograph and many others from Urban elementz

It is Mother's Day in the UK today and I have been spoilt with a card, semi circle rulers for my quilting machine and my car has been cleaned and waxed. My plan for April is to take time out from quilting for others and try my hand at some freehand quilting on the machine.

Farmer's Wife Friday 100 weathervane

I like this block. As drafted in the book it looked difficult, but it reminded me of the Swoon blocks I'm currently making. I redrafted the block using Quilt assistant software. I think I'll include it in the next CQ bonus block handout.

I've just added the red and white spot to my box of FWQS fabrics and I bought five fat quarters of lovely dots in Saumur from Dotty Rose The dots are embossed. Great texture.

Thimbleberries Block of the Month

This is a big quilt. 80" wide and even longer the other way. Many of us from Caesarea Quilters made this quilt and Alice chose the pastel version. I chose the traditional and it needs to be finished for the Eisteddfod by the end of February. I wonder if Alice will bind her quilt for this year's Eisteddfod or next's?

Farmer's Wife Friday is back

Farmer's Wife Friday is backafter a two month break, I have just finished another block. The closer I get to completing all the blocks, the more pieces and the longer it takes to make just one 6" block.

Having compared my block to the picture in the book, I realise that the block is not symmetrical four ways, just two ways. Never mind, I prefer my version. I have now completed 83 blocks with 28 to go. I can't believe I haven't made 64 Peace & Plenty yet so that will be my next block.

Loving Popcorn

I've seen the Popcorn pantograph used successfully on several quilts and at the weekend I invested in the digital file. Here is the first quilt which I've used this on. I love the deep red of Lorraine's quilt which is for her brother.

Christmas Eve

A week ago I finished quilting this quilt for Sarah to give to her daughter for Christmas. Sarah used leftover pieces to make up her binding. My favourite binding at the moment is a pieced binding and it uses the leftover strips. even quicker if you're using a jelly roll. This was one of the two classes we did with Jan Krentz in 2010. I think most of us have finished this design and only Janet has finished the quilt from the three day class. That is one of my must finish UFOs for 2102.

Loving Cinderberry thread

I love this quilt which was a delight to quilt. The owner, Liz Webb is so precise in her piecing which makes for a better finished product. I have bought this book as a result of seeing Liz's friend Katie's version and I think both are nicer than the example in the book.

Katie chose a parchment coloured thread for her quilt which matched the backing. Liz gave me free rein and I chose Cinderberry (great name) which matched the colours in the border fabric.

Visiting tutor, Lynne Edwards, suggested a book evening for Caesarea Quilters and I think it's a great idea to see the books members have actually used and the quilts they've made. Unfortunately this is a Christmas gift and will be going to England very soon.

Are you busy too?

I've been busy getting over my second chest infection of winter 2011. Three of us are visiting a school in England on Saturday so I want to get rid of it asap. Farmer's Wife Friday is taking a break until the New Year but here is a photo of 36 of my blocks so far.




I will be returning before Christmas to share another customer's beautiful quilt and also one of mine which is being bound this week.

Angela's quilt

I have just finished trimming Angela's Thimbleberries BOM 2008 to take it to her at the workshop we are hosting with Lynne Edwards this week. Today is the final of three days of "curvy things".

In order to accomodate Anglea's quilt, I have now extended the table for my machine to 12 foot. Thankfully the room it's in is about 12foot 6 inches long!! I had thought I'd take the table down again to 8 foot but I have now changed my mind and I am ready to quilt all sizes up to about 11 foot wide. I have no other quilts waiting to be quilted so I think it's time to finish another of my own, but I need to source some wide backings first.

It's feeling a lot like Christmas

I have been waiting impatiently to buy in some wide backings and wadding to enable me to finish my own quilts and also have some for clients. I have now found out that the two references I gave haven't replied. So I'll have to wait a little longer. I can't wait to be able to stock some Riley Blake and Accuquilt too.

I have finished a quilt for myself this week, having recovered eventually from the nasty chest infection that's doing the rounds locally.

Farmer's Wife Friday

After having quilted two pieces for others on my long arm last week, this week has been very quiet as I recover from a chest infection. Everyone seems to be suffering with one bug or another this month. Today I have finished one farmer's wife block and also a challenge block for Chez Soi which now needs the official wadding and to be quilted.

45 grape basket
